How's Your Heart?

Did you know that heart disease is the No.1 killer in Malaysia* recording higher fatalities than other diseases and even traffic accidents?

There are numerous kinds of heart diseases. Recognising their warning signs will help you take action to protect your heart from further danger. It could save your life.

The Warning Signs

Shortness of breath
Chronic fatigue
Frequent fainting
Palpitations (irregular heart beat rhythms)
Swelling of tissue (particularly on the legs, ankles, chest, abdomen and around the eyes)
Skin discolouration
Chest pain or discomfort
If you or someone you know ever experience these signs, consult the doctor as soon as possible.

Recognise the symptoms of a heart attack:

Tightness or feeling of being squeezed in the chest area.
Sharp and prolonged pain in the chest that does not subside with rest and which may radiate into your left arm, neck, back or jaw.
Mild to intense sweating, nausea, dizziness and shortness of breath.
Irregular heart beat or pulse.
Absence of any heartbeat.


Heart attack permanently destroys heart tissue and can be fatal. If you or anyone around you suspects a heart attack, go to the hospital immediately. Every minute counts.

Heart attack occurs when blood flow to the heart muscle is severely restricted due to coronary artery disease.
