TEETH TRUTHS

Food For Teeth

Smile and the world smiles with you. But unhealthy teeth with cavities or bleeding gums are nothing to smile about.

Teeth grow strong on minerals like calcium, phosphorus, magnesium and fluoride. So, you need to eat as much high-calcium foods as possible, like milk, cheese, bean curd, ikan bilis and fortified cereals.

Caring For Your Pearly Whites

Brushing your teeth 3 times a day is the best way to prevent your teeth from rotting, which is extremely painful and will make your teeth fall out.

Besides brushing, floss your teeth regularly too, because it cleans between your teeth where a toothbrush can't reach. Don't stuff yourself with sweet, sugary foods because sugar causes tooth decay. But if you do eat sweet snacks, rinse your mouth or brush your teeth after that.

And remember, your dentist is your best friend. So visit him regularly!

Dental Problems & Treatments

These are the problems you'll face if you don't take care of your teeth:
  • Cavities - where your tooth slowly decays and holes start to appear. Although this is caused by bacteria, calcium deficiency in your diet could also increase your risk.
  • Pulpitis - where your tooth pulp is inflamed and causes intense pain
  • Gingivitis - where your gums are swollen and bleed easily. Sometimes, vitamin C deficiency causes scurvy, which may lead to gingivitis.

So if you have, or suspect you have any dental problems, go see a dentist!
