Understanding Probiotics-containing Foods Online Engagement Workshop
To encourage consumers to understand more about probiotics-containing foods, the Probiotic Education Programme conducted its first online engagement workshop to reach out to public to inform on good gut health and genuine probiotics-containing goods.
In this workshop, consumers interacted with the chairman of the Programme, Dr Tee E Siong and workshop moderator, Dr Tan Sue Yee to learn about:
• Importance of good gut health
• Roles of diet and probiotics in ensuring good gut health
• Regulatory requirements for labeling of probiotic-containing foods, including a clear indication of the probiotic identity (genus, species and strain), that it contains live culture, as well as quantity in the product (expressed as number of cfu/g or ml), thus equipped them with the knowledge on how to better identify genuine probiotic-containing foods in the market
• Several frequently asked questions on diet, probiotics containing foods and gut health
